Yet Another Week at Home

This past week I was in Birmingham for a visit. My mom was wanting this huge, black armoire to be painted but the estimates she was getting from painters was, well the cost of a new armoire really.
The long story of this is that about two years ago she started neutralizing everything in the home. The walls went from earth tones to white. Then for months she didn't put anything on the walls because she liked the de-cluttered look. (So, the first time Kenny came to visit my home of 13 years, he asked if we had just moved there.) All that to say, it has been quite the long process and she endured a lot of smack talk (we called the house an insane asylum for about a year) but now it really has come together and it looks great.
All that to say, she flew me down and for 7 days we painted. We used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and it really turned out wonderfully. We got carried away and did a couple other smaller projects including a lamp, a chair, and a mirror. But for now, some before and after pics.

 After: (Drumroll please...)

We painted the little key that opens this hunk of burnin' love a pretty gold to tie in with all the gold frames on the wall.

TADA!! Doesn't this just make the room look completely different?
I really wish I had some before and after pictures of what the house used to look like but to paint you an even better picture of how badly the black armoire needed to go, here are some of the rooms that are on the same floor. (Two notes: 1. I have no idea why I forgot to do the other two rooms on the main floor. They are neutral and beautiful too, momentary brain fart. 2. These are cell phone pictures, yikes!)

A little bit of trivia for you today- Who is my mom's favorite? Answer: can be found in this room :)

While a very large part of the week was spent paint brush in hand, we also found time to cram in all our favorite places to eat, Pure Barre, laying out, dog walks, spin classes, a little bit of shopping and a few good movies. It was a great week with a lot of family time, which was nice because we are all so scattered these days. It is always so fun to go home. The older I get the more I really enjoy spending time with my mom. We always have so much fun together. It really is such a blessing we get along so well. On the other hand, the longer I am married the more I hate being away from Kenny. When he dropped me off at the airport I cried like a two year old who just had to sit on Santa's lap in the mall. I was a hot mess and the only thing that could console me was the new Real Simple magazine in the airport's newsstand. All that to say, it is wonderful to be back with Ken and my pups and this glorious February sunshine!
