A week with the fam!

This past week my family came to visit for their Spring Break. It was a packed week full of lots of walking, learning, metro rides and laughing. We went to the White House and got to tour it, which is a big deal because less than one percent of the people who apply get to tour! I actually applied and got rejected but my dad had a connection and we barley made the cut! We also got to tour the Capitol through my dad's connection. We were feeling pretty dad gum elite. We also visited the Library of Congress, the National Archives Museum, the Crime and Punishment Museum, all the monuments, the Holocaust Museum, Chinatown, the National Museum of Natural History, and a parade starring our very own Kenny Byrd!... Not exactly your relaxing SB trip! Here are a few  of pictures taken by my photographer sister, Kitty.

We waited in line at Georgetown Cupcake (from the show DC Cupcake) for every bit of 40 minutes just to taste the sweetness of these bad boys. When in DC.

Kenny in a St. Patrick's Day Parade, see if you can find him. You can see his face, good luck! My family was really disappointed because we screamed our heads off when he walked passed us and he did not flinch. They were expecting a wave or a little jig of some sort, obviously my family has no experience with the strict no smiles policy of the military, well HG at least, until now.
Jake, Kitty, Shmoo and I ran after after the USCG Honor Guard to catch up with Kenny after the parade. We barely made it , it was totally worth it!

The family at the Library of Congress. In my opinion this is the prettiest building we saw all week. If you live in DC or are visiting you MUST go see it.

Mom and Dad outside of the White House after our tour
We were not allowed to take cameras into the WH, so these pictures are from my Dad's Blackberry. Notice the lovely truck in the background of me and Ken. Awesome. Side note- Jake wore his Bama loves McCain shirt to our white house tour. Only Jake.
The family in front of the Washington Monument.
The ceiling of the Capitol Building
 The rotunda of the Capitol
This was from the Crime and Punishment Museum. It is Ted Bundy's car that he used to pick up women that he killed. (RIP my fellow Chi Omega sisters) How creepy is this. Might I mention my dad drove the exact same car back in the '70's, can you see my dad sporting a bug? (Note: the museum was really cool. I didn't experience it to its fullest however because my mom and dad walked through and read every single world on every single plaque and my brothers and sisters ran through and only stopped long enough to snap a few pictures. I was somewhere in the middle of that group and walking around seeing picturesof murderers, crime scenes, dead bodies, etc. creeped me out and I ended up running through the last half.) Curse our family's addiction to anything crime related- CSI, Law and Order and of course Criminal Minds.

More of the Library of Congress
If you have seen National Treasure this is room where Nicholas Cage went to get the President's secret book.
At the Smithsonian they had an orchid exhibit and it was a couple of rooms chalk full of orchids. (Mrs. Bette you would have died! )

There are literally hundreds more pictures from this trip and they can be found on my sister's fb page, here:

In the evenings we would eat dinner in our tiny little apartment, that is really only tiny when you fit 8 people + Nelly, but it was cozy. Watch a funny movie and eat lots of unhealthy snacks. Then wake up and do it all over again! I loved getting to spend time with my family, I have missed them so much! Kitty and Shmoo spent the night when Kenny had duty, and it was so fun just goofing off and enjoying my seesters.

I know everyone feels this way, but I really have the best family in the world. Who am I that the Lord gave me 4 siblings and 2 parents that have my back no matter what and can encourage me, love me, laugh with me and even spend a spring break having history crammed down their throats just to spend time with Ken and me. I am beyond super blessed.  We can do anything together and have so much fun. Whether it is being chewed out by a homeless man or listening to a short man syndrome rent a cop brag about his job or even walking four miles a day and eating the same hamburgers 8 days in a row, my family can make anything exciting. Dropping them off at the Metro on their last day felt so wrong and unnatural. As much as I hate being 700 miles away from them I love being able to wake up next to Kenny everyday and have no one else up here but him. It has made our marriage strong in a way we never could have experienced if we lived in Birmingham or Ozark. Now I am rabbit trailing like WHOA! Signing off now,

 God is so good.
