A week at home!

Before we left for home Kenny changed my brake pads. How cute is this picture?

We are moving in two days and just to pack on a little more stressed I have tried to finish a lot of our yard sale projects before we move. We got this self for $10. We knocked the heart at the top of (a little too quick, Kenny had to hold it on because it was the first thing I did when we got home) and Kenny took off the door at the bottom. Put a quick coat of white paint on it and there you go. All of our little knick knacks are packed, so yes I will post another picture with it fully decorated.

We went home this weekend to see my brother graduate college, but after the tornado disaster it has been moved to August. Well, that was our cover. We really went back to celebrate with the family for my brother's engagement. He has been playing it since February and worked really hard to keep it a secret!

Here she is, Ashley Carroll soon to be Dorr. Welcome to the family!! She is awesome!!
Our family just keeps getting bigger!
He put a rang on it!

They are getting married the last weekend of  October on the beach. It is going to be a small ceremony with just our families. Such a sweet and intimate ceremony followed by a huge party in Birmingham a week later after their honeymoon!

We had the most wonderful time visiting with family, eating too much cookie cake, playing tennis, shopping, going to the farmer's market, celebrating our awesome moms on Mother's Day, and planning a wedding! My mom and I got to go with Ashley to look for wedding dresses! She found the most beautiful dress! I'll post pictures... in November!!

We also traveled down to Ozark to see Kenny's parents. After looking through family photos, seeing Kenny's Prom King crown and other family memories I saw this picture below. Who is this foxy lady you might ask? Mrs. Bette! I just had to post this picture for the blogging world to see! Beautiful!

Just a couple pictures of the damage done in Birmingham, nothing like the devastation that hit Tuscaloosa.

You know I couldn't go a whole week without painting something white!! I convinced my mom to start the process of painting her furniture white. Baby steps. Well, she has already painted all the walls white so I guess really she took a flying leap.  But the furn is still dark, so it had to go!  We started with this table that is in the kitchen. Of course I am so eager to start new things I always forget the before picture- so, here is the table with the next picture showing the knobs that were on it.

Also, a picture of my mom and Kenny painting. I am pretty sure this was my mom's second time to touch a paintbrush in all of her 50 years so I had to capture this moment. It was a good thing I caught it when I did, she painted maybe ten minutes and then found a cozy spot on the cooler and watched us paint the rest of the time!

And after....

My mom already had white paint and brushes so the total cost of the redo was the price of the knobs from Anthropologie- $17.50

We got home Monday night and let me just tell you-do NOT fly Delta unless you have a death wish. Our first flight was delayed fifteen minutes which as we all know turned into 2 hours. 2 venti frapps later, we had missed our first connection flight and the second one they had us rescheduled for too. So, we were booked to fly out at 6 the next morning. We begged for a flight that night and the best they could do was put us on standby for the 955 flight. Of course that flight was delayed until 10:30, but we made it on. PTL. and PTL again. Got home around midnight. Lost luggage. Sure, why not? The next day at 5:30 the bag was dragged from the vehicle to the front office putting holes in the bag and awful marks all over it. Did I mention the peanuts were awful too? After all that mess, we are team Southwest all the way.

Yesterday was Kenny's HG picnic so he got off early and we napped all day. We woke up and of course there was laundry to be done, clothes to be unpacked out of the ruined bag, and groceries to be bought. I instead tacked up the fabric I got in Birmingham into a cabinet we got at a garage sale.
We found this guy for $30 and it looked great, was sturdy and super cute (a must). It would have been fine if we had left it painted that creme color with black knobs, but if you know me at all, you know it wasn't white enough for me. So, before we left I painted it white. It was still missing something and I decided some bam fabric was just what the doctor ordered. (Also, a perfect excuse for me to go to the fabric store that I love in Birmingham.)

So, viola! Here it is with two little what-nots I haven't packed up yet. What do you think?

I told you I had every intention of taking you on a wild goose chase. This will (more than likely) be the last post from this home. It's about that time to pack the computer up and head on to our new home, or new Byrd Nest should I say!

  2. Mary Margaret ... I know we have not met but my husband was in the honor guard with Kenny for a short amount of time before we received orders for A-School! I remember the day Ryan ... (AKA Ricks at the honor guard) called me and said we have a Byrd reporting to the unit. You see my maiden name is Byrd (how ironic I know). My family is from Southeast Virginia though! I tell you this because of the end of this particular blog reminds me of home. If you call my parents house the answering says ... "You have reached the Byrd Nest, Sorry we are unable to come to the phone at the moment, but if you leave your name and number we will fly and call you later." I hope all continues to go well with you and Kenny!
