January-ing

Why is it that all my favorite months fly by? Summer, Fall, even December just zooms by. Then there is January, where every day is slower than molasses. That being said I have more free time than normal, or at least I feel like I do. So what I am doing with that free time? I am the OCD housewife who ironed my duvet cover. Before you laugh or just feel really sorry for me look at the before and after pictures- it was a good decision. Really I should have done it months ago.

You would think I spend a large portion of the day cooking seeing as Kenny is off at work. False. Kenny is the chef in this family. Sure, I can follow a recipe but he just throws stuff in a pan and makes a meal happen. No, he doesn't even measure the ingredients. It goes against every fiber in my being to watch him do it but without fail his concoctions always turn out delish.

Don't you love Kenny's new apron? He picked it out at Williams Sonoma this weekend. And then came home and wore it the rest of the afternoon, filling the pockets with all the kitchen utensils he could jam in there.
Then there is another side to my husband, the one you are probably very familiar with if you know him and that would be his love for all things outdoors. About once a week he has his man time. Most men have man cave time, Kenny heads outdoors. It usually involves fire, bugs, danger, his machete and a bruise or burn when it is all said and done. This week it was your typical fire but it was freezing outside. The next day it snowed. I was outside for the two seconds it took to snap these pics then retreated into the warm house where I watch from the window.

To make January a little more bearable I try to embrace the winter season. Hot chocolate has become part of our nightly routine; and chocolate makes everything better. Yesterday I made some apple chips. Slice up an apple or two and put some cinnamon on them. Bake at 275 for 45 minutes. They were OK. The heavenly smell coming from the oven made me want a juicy apple pie so they were a little bit of a let down. But still worth a shot.
Since everything is dying outside and turning brown I try to keep fresh flowers in the house. Nothing brightens your spirits like a little sign of life!

And then there is a lot of relaxing. Kenny's dad sent the dogs these beds for Christmas and they live in them. Thanks Hinky!
Speaking of Hinky, I took this video of him in Ozark over Thanksgiving and he had no idea. He refuses to learn to text so he would probably be shocked to know my phone even had a camera on it. We went outside and whe was doing laps around the yard to work off all he ate for lunch. This is his rant about how much food we eat.  Anywho, this should brighten your dreary January day.
Isn't he great? I just love him.

Recently Kenny's mom sent us the cutest place settings for our anniversary and I just fall in love with them more every time I look at them. Ok, maybe not love, but something super close to it.

And lastly but certainly not least, if you have not read The Hunger Games trilogy you are missing out.
I mean this blows Twilight out the water and is, in my opinion, almost at the Harry Potter level of greatness. That being said, I am not being dramatic but completely serious when I say drop everything you are doing and pick up the first book today.

This is such a random post but that is what you have missed in a day in the life of the Byrd fam!

Now, if you are one of my sweet Auburn friends who I love dearly, you might not be able to handle this next part. Read on at your own risk.

DID I MENTION WE ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
It was the best I have ever seen the Crimson Tide play. We played like champions and deserved to win. Everyone expected LSU to win, including the ESPN announcers decked out in the gold and purple, I guess they regretted the outfit choices since LSU got zereaux points. The first shut out in BCS history?
I guess you could say WE MADE THEIR ASS QUIT!!!!!
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!!!

If this last video doesn't get your blood pumping I am not sure what will!
