26

Yesterday was Kenny's birthday! It could not have been a more perfect day! It started off the day before with a little happy-last-day-of-being-25 treat.  I made him some banana bread, his absolute favorite. Favorite as in one time he jokingly said he married me because my banana bread was so good. Probably a little truth to that. Anywho, I added a little birthday surprise in the recipe. I put a whole bag of Reese's cups in the batter.

He had duty that day, so I took him the whole loaf, without getting a super fabulous picture of it. I figured I might be able to if he brought the leftovers home the next day. There were no leftovers. Less than 12 hours and the entire thing was gone. (Of course, I sneaked a few bites- the chocolate and peanut butter melted into the batter and it was as close as a human can get Jesus's words, "on Earth as it is in Heaven"- through a recipe at least! Let that help you determine if you should add Reese's into your next batch of banana bread.

The next day was one of celebration!! Kenny got off of work at lunch time and we had a perfect afternoon. We ate lunch and enough carrot cake to make us sick, then headed outside where we basked in the sunshine and soaked up all the vitamin D we could. That is right. Februrary 1, Northern Virginia, 70 degrees. Happy Birthday Kenny! Love, The Maker of Heaven and Earth

Even Nelly and Chaco got into the birthday spirit.

I got a pack of tissue paper to wrap gifts but ended up using it to make these cute little fellas. They took no time at all and really made the house festive.

And then this guy. I have seen a bunch of cute ways to make birthday signs on Pinterest and craft blogs, but the amount of time and work that goes into them has kept me from making one. I bought a happy birthday sign last year and this year it was nowhere to be found. Seeing as we never have set up a printer in our house we have no blank paper just laying around. So, I chopped up a book. The letters didn't pop enough so I taped them to a coffee filter and strung them up with fishing line. Yes, we have fishing line but no blank paper in our home, go figure.

So, right when Kenny got home the sign welcomed him and let him know it was party time.

Then we went to dinner at this place called Mike's American Grill. It was delish. Love how Nelly hopped in this picture.
And even after half a carrot cake we decided some White Chocolate Bread Pudding was a must.

It was a wonderful day: I hated it had to end. I am so thankful for the life of Kenny Byrd!
