Garden Adventures

This weekend was our first ever yard sale. Worst. Experience. Ever. First of all, this was my first yard sale and we found out midweek that Kenny was in the Cherry Blossom Parade so it was going to be just me. After a very long series of unfortunate events (including but not limited to: going 5 different places at 7 am looking for one dollar bills, carrying box after box by myself to this field, realizing I sold my mom's $725 lamp for $10, and having a girl steal a shirt from me) I was ready to never hear the words yard sale again.
After packing up the three boxes of things we did not sell I met Kenny back at the house and after complaining for well I guess I am still complaining so scratch that, anywho we went to Lowes. No better place to blow some steam off than a huge hardware store with the other 6820567 Alexandrians who wanted to do their yards too on a pretty Saturday afternoon.

As you see I did not sell the flower painting at the yard sale and I am so glad I didn't. I got it at the farmer's market in Alabama and it was on the mantle in my house in college and I have so many wonderful memories there so when this bargain hunter cheap lady offered me ten measly dollars I just couldn't accept. And I am so glad I didn't, Kenny hung it on our porch and it makes the porch feel like we have another room in the house.

Sunday morning we were up bright and early and in the garden by 7. (You know you are a grown up when you spend your money on mulch and you are up and at 'em at 7.) Kenny dug up the four azalea  bushes that were dead. We realized out soil was actually clay and rocks, so he ended up digging up all the azaleas, tilling in new soil and soil conditioner then redoing the azaleas and planting two new plants. We got a pink hydrangea bush and a knockout rose bush.

I am also going to try to grow tomatoes again. I just love a tomato. Wish me luck!

This little rock line we made from rocks we dug out of our garden. No wonder our azaleas died. RIP.

Chaco was quite the help with the garden redo.

And at the end of the weekend, this picture sums up how we were all feeling.

One step closer to making this house a home!!

  1. I went to a nursery with Linda Dees today and we saw those hydrangeas and the lady called them flat topped hydrangeas. They are so beautiful!!!The garden looks grand. The tomatoes around here have some sort of blight where the little leaves curl up and its bad so I don't know if I will try again or not, I probably will, because I love fresh tomatoes!
I did a yard sale ONE time and the people came before the sun was even up. I think they camped out to be exact...hummm anyway no one wanted to pay more than .50 for things and I sold a King size bed spread and shames and bed skirt for $5.00 only because I couldn't fathom taking it all back into the house again. I never met so many cheap people in my life. they would like offer .10 for things. OMGosh..... I also did mine ALONE and when I had to go to the bathroom( never even dawned on me I would have to go into the house and go to the bathroom and LEAVE everyone out there with all the things) I am so sure people just took what they wanted and left. OH I forgot Kenny was there for a while and he sold the MOST..... toys, game boys, baseball cards etc...I am thinking he made about 70$ as I made about $30. I NEVER did one again. ....I get tears of rage when I even think about it. Sure wish I could have warned you! Now I just give it to the rescue mission and get a tax receipt back. I wish you had told me about your yard sale BEFORE you did it so I could give you a heads up on it...lets communicate more..hahahaha !!!!!I am waiting a few days until I get that Immutol for Ken and I will send the sewing machine, pinking shears, thread material etc...at the same time.....I love you darlings..........:)
