For about a month now Kenny has known he was getting a gift for his birthday that started with an 'f'. While he was at work on Friday, I went to the Baltimore airport to pick his 'gift' up. He knew the gift was big and couldn't be wrapped, so I texted him and told him it had arrived and I was going to hide it in the apartment somewhere and when he got home he could find it. Well, the little sneak got home from work and somehow immediately went into the bathroom and opened the shower curtain where his two best friends, Blake Rice and Zach Burandt were hiding.
Happy Birthday Kenny!!!
Saturday morning we slept late, Kenny made some pancakes and we headed into DC to explore. there are a lot of pictures in this blog, but just consider it a virtual tour of DC.
we took a pit stop at a scenic overlook, this picture is pre-snowball fight
Duh and I in front of the Lincoln Memorial
My handsome husband and Abe
Yeah, emo I know. Love this picture, really just the hand in it!
SHOUT OUT for lisa stull- the monuments are a million times prettier with the fresh white snow around them. It was a winter wonderland and it was awesome!!! yay snow!
Blake making friends by the Vietnam Memorial, I think he got her number too
This was the coolest picture of the weekend only because the camera on my phone really messed up! The five of us and our ghosts!
OK, this museum is the coooooolest place in the world. Blake wanted to go in here so the rest of us thinking of our sore feet went along with it. The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History is the bomb. I mean look at it. All the pictures below are just a few of exhibitions.
How cool is this coral reef that was in the museum.. there were at least five others just as big as this. buuuuut, they are not coral reefs, some women crocheted ALL of it! Look at the closer picture below to see all the fabric!
CRAZY!!!
There are a million life size animals in the museum. This one is a little PG-13, but you guys can handle it.
See! That giraffe is insane!
They were setting up for some big event, but we weren't invited, weird.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, this is the hope diamond. Harry Winston gave this rare, flawless, blue 45.52 carat diamond to the Smithsonian... WHAT was he thinking?! There was a exhibit of all these huge rare gems and I was literally drooling.
a modest 427 carat sapphire
In front of the Washington Monument at sunset, it was so pretty!
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." - Psalm 19:1
A field trip into DC would not be complete without a visit to the white house
Nelly getting some quality time with her one true love
Saturday ended with hamburgers, broccoli casserole, more carrot cake and a Bourne movie
After an awesome Saturday we were all exhausted, including Nelly. Sunday we took everybody back to the airport and napped and walked Nelly in the afternoon. She has a new boyfriend, his name is Milo, we met him in the park yesterday. She is love struck!
Tomorrow is Kenny's official birthday, praise the good Lord for the life of my precious husband Kenny Byrd!!!!
